Nature's Candy

I pulled out a jar of peaches for lunch. I've known Avery to not really try peaches, she's left them on her plate and never returned. She said to be as I opened the jar, "I remember trying it and I don't like it." She has tried it, a long, long time ago. I'm sure she doesn't remember tasting it. I'm sure she had it in her mind that she didn't even want to try it and wasn't going to like it at all.

I pulled out the first peach and stuffed it into my mouth. "Yum", I tried to convince her that it was indeed as delicious as it is. "I remember I don't like it." she tried again. I kept putting the peaches in my mouth. I kept describing to her how delicious it tasted. I told her it was nature's candy. She promptly jumped down from her chair, got out her own fork and pulled a peach out of the jar. She took a minuscule bit, not expecting to like it. BUT, she did like it. She ate almost the whole jar of peaches. "I like it, I like it.", she told me like the character at the end of Green Eggs and Ham. By the end of the jar she was feeling a little sick because she ate too many.

Tantrums

I have the most amazing, wonderful children. I think most parents would say that about their kids (unless they're fighting in front of them). They aren't always easy. They aren't always angels. That's what I love about them. You have the good and the bad and something in between. You can't capture the feelings and words to describe that feeling. You sly dog got me monologuing (from Pixar's The Incredibles, a habit of quoting kid's movies is what comes naturally after having children).

My three year old followed me around the kitchen, crying while I was trying to make her breakfast. It was annoying. I was thinking in my head, "hold her, give her the attention she is demanding." Then I thought I will never get through this morning. Do I drop everything because she is crying for it? Am I enabling her bad, annoying behavior if I fold to everyting she cries about? I don't know if I make excuses for her behavior. I don't know if I rationalize my behavior. All I wanted to do was make her breakfast and go on to the next step of the day. Why do I toil with so many emotions so early in the day? Ugh! And the biggest question is why is she waking up so cranky? You should be at your best first thing in the morning.
